Do like Wall St. Sell them first and then when you get paid, go to the bank and get them.

Definitely get them. Go through them, collect the varieties, fill an album or two, or just keep the good ones you find. Sell the ones you don't want on the bay to help cover the costs for the ones you keep, or buy. They are also cheap right now to buy in higher grades so if you could somehow flip them, and use that to buy a more rare but graded example you'd be back to only having one coin with quite likely, better potential than the lot. I don't hunt enough, I don't like dealing with banks. It's weird, the Presidential dollars are sitting in vaults like the Morgan dollars did.

Pick up a $5 Dunkin Doughnuts Gift Card, Go to the bank and strike up a conversation with the teller. Let them know you really want those Ikes to fill holes in your albums. Let them know you picked up a DD GC for them hoping they'd be able to exchange them for cash with only you, over the next month. If they say sure, give them the Gift Card. If they say no....There an Ash hole lol Sure the gift card might be 5 Ikes but it can buy you the time you need to take the whole lot! This has worked for me a number of times. They usually don't have to cash in coins like this right away. I've gone to banks where they've had them for months. And rare occasion years.. So good luck let us know what you get.

I am going to parrot everyone else here and tell you to get the ikes first. They are much less available than the Presidential dollars. Good luck.

I have a bank here near me that has $3000 of them. They had them for a commercial customer at one time and they gave them to the employees at Christmas but the commercial customer changed banks so now they sit on them. I would like to get my hands on some and then make a little extra off them but I didnt think they brought much value. Can you explain how much value they do bring now?

TNMorgan, Ikes aren't my "thing" but I pick up whatever knowledge I can on this site, so let me try to give you an answer:

Ikes were not a popular coin at the time of their minting due to their size--the Ike is roughly twice the size of a modern dollar coin, give or take a bit--and so they were only minted for a few years before being replaced with the SAB. Eventually they became known as a coin that's easy to complete a set of because they were only minted for something like eight or ten years, and collectors' interest grew. However, dollar coins haven't seen a lot of popularity in many years, so finding them in circulation is pretty hard (I'm well-known at my store for "knowing" my coins, and the first time someone handed me an Ike I refused to take it until they told me where they'd gotten it from--I actually thought for quite some time that we'd skipped straight from Liberty to Susan on the dollar coins). This gives them an additional premium over other, more common dollar coins.

The value of your Ikes will vary based on a few things: condition, rarity of the particular mint run, silver vs. clad, and variety. I don't really know anything about the Ike varieties, but I know getting a "Type II" is apparently cause for a lot of flail, so hopefully someone else will see this comment and be able to fill you in on the varieties. On the whole, however, if you can't flip Ikes for at least $2 per coin, you're either in a bad market or not trying very hard--that's the impression I've gotten from CCF.

Out of all the ikes, the only years were 71, 72, 74, 76, 77, and 78
Not a lot of high grade coins in there. I kept 14 for my collection. 27 are fit to sell but are lower grade than the ones I kept.
My half (82 of the 164) had 46 which I deemed to be not collectible condition, either because they had scratches or some IDIOT put scotch tape on them.
I'm not sure if it will be worth selling, since I am always honest about my sales and would never sell something with letting people know what condition its in.
I might take these 46 to the bank.

Any advice?

Try acetone to get the scotch tape off.

Underneath the tape there is a very uneven tarnish compared with the non-taped area. The tape was seemingly there for many years

I would still give acetone a shot. If it doesn't work its a shame.

Ah, so I just realized that the dates I have, 71, 72, 74, 76, 77, and 78, are the only copper-nickel non-proof years. So we got them all. 2 variations of the "D" mintmark there were only 1 of. We both got one so neither of us has a complete set! dang. We are both missing ONE D variation. So close... Maybe I should ask if I can but his D mint?
