why don't you and ValiantKnight get together so we have 10 coins for Round #1 of his Guess The Price of Ancients (you guys are dividing the limited umber of coins being offered-up as contest candidates) ...

Just an idea

NOTE => good guess, echizento!! ...

Oh, and good contest Eng5858 (but I'm not 100% sure if there is room for "2" Guess The Price contests within the ancient world? (what a stick-in-the-mud I am, eh?)

Hmmm, this looks fun and deceptively complex since I know very little about rarity, price a given person was willing to pay, or comparitive market values. I can guess what I would pay though, and I was pretty close close with the last two even though I joined too late to vote for those. For the second set I would go with:

#1 $35
#2 $18

Just a good guess on my part. Probably not going to be as lucky on this one.

Nice strick and detail on coin #1, I would pay $30 for it. Constantius I tends to be a bit expensive in any condition, the obverse is a bit pitted on the face but it has a very nice reverse. I think this is also a $30 coin.

If you need a variation on the theme, post 2-4 coins from various sources that have the same price and guess the price. I almost agree with echizento's matching prices here although I would not pay over $10 for the Constantius due to condition. I recognize that some people pay more for full size folles so that makes my 'offer' $12/$10 which already belongs to jw.

I believe lemon juice would loosen the hard green on Aurelian but I fear that the remaining surfaces might suffer. Trying it would probably create a $25 or a $5 coin. The obverse reminds me of a recent success I had with an Aurelian but I don't see the protective silvering on the reverse so I'd be cautious to try it here on a coin already "looks cool like a lot".

According to Helvetica's, the only Aurelian/Oriens coin that comes up with "VIIII" mintmark is not in RIC. But is identified as "Normandy Hoard 1253" and listed as scarce. I have not had time to check my copy of RIC, but will when I get a chance. Maybe someone else will know more about it.

Rome #62 - one of many, many, many mintmark variations they lumped in that number. Yours is VIIII. Remember my coin with a lion in exergue? It is also a 62. RIC V sooo needs to be reissued.
