Another Opportunity New Member Australia 25 Posts	Posted 09/07/2012 06:04 am I found three florins metal detecting, how should I deal with the dirt? I keep reading "never clean coins" and things like that regarding valuable or thought to be valuable coins. I don't want to damage them in any way, what's your advice? Being that these look worn (trying to look underneath the dance) these won't fetch much over silver spot value. clean em harsh, get that dirt off, then you've got 1/2 oz of shiney silver. The florins you have dug are silver but beyond that have little numismatic value due to their grade. Dates prior to 1946 are 92.5% Ag and those from 46 onwards are 50% Ag.
