Be sure to take advantage of that situation while you can, but be careful not to look greedy.
I had a good relationship with a branch that fell apart recently. Apparently a business customer complained that I didnt have to pay for coins like he did, so they stopped allowing me to take them. I wish I had been more dillinent with buying their coin bags while I could have.

During my recent holiday in Florida I saw two Coinstar machines. One was within easy sight of the till and I didn't like to search the reject tray! I poked around in the other and found a dime - but unluckily it wasn't a silver one - it was a 1991D!

Bay singer - thanks for advice. It's a small branch of a large regional/small national bank. I am often the only person or one of two people in there. Every single teller and banker in the place knows me and my kids. They often call when they see something good. Saved a 5$ silver cert for me on top of the bags. It's very nice that its not busy so no one else can complain.

Too bad some complained about you. It takes some luck and hard work to cultivate a good relationship like you had

Well, I've started 2014 by finding four cents yesterday.

I'm pretty sure that I found more than $20 last year in 'forgotten' money. I'm going to try and keep a running total this year. A cent here and a cent there adds up over time, especially when the cents turn into nickels and dimes.

I've thought about posting a note on the machine at work saying that I'll buy the user's 'trash' coins. I know most will be messed up cents, but I'd hope to also score a silver here and there or some interesting foreign coinage (unfortunately I don't know anything about foreign coins though).

I went to the store today and a guy was dumping a HUGE pile of change into the Coinstar. I was planning to buy a lottery ticket anyway (which was right next to the Coinstar machine) and the guy kept putting the rejects back in, then getting them rejected. I told him I would buy his rejects but he said "It'll take them if I keep trying." That made me cringe. Finally, all but one dime went in. I asked about it, and he held it up. I could only see it was a 195X dime. I told him I'd buy it, and he said "OK, $5.00." I explained it looked to be a silver dime and did not have that much value in silver in it. I offered him $2.00 for it, but he said "If it's silver, it's worth more than $5.00 then." I wished him luck in selling it for more than what I offered for it, and continued on my way. So close.

Skyshark124, your offer was way more than generous for that dime. That guy will be cussing to himself when he tries to get rid of it elsewhere and finds he 'might' get $1 for it. Some people still think silver is gold! :)

Four silver dimes today including a beautiful 1958.

Great find!!

Found $1.78 worth of change in the reject tray. No silver or old coins.

1999 UK penny was the most interesting find.

4 quarters
4 dimes
1 nickel
32 Memorial Lincolns, 15 of them copper, rest zinc.
1 UK penny

42 coins in one day from one Coinstar scan has to be a record, or at least close to it.

1942 P Merc today on the floor in front of the machine. Dark toned on the obverse with several bad scratches, but the reverse was F, or so.

A 42/41 is one of only two error coins I would go to buy if I won a lottery. This one was definitely not that, but it was free silver. My third merc at that machine.
