So, looking through a huge jar of change, I came upon this 1965 Nickel. I know theres two variations - Small Beads and Large Beads, the Large Beads being worth much, much more then the Small.

I'm unsure how to tell which is which.

What do I have here?

Thanks for all your help!

Hi delareese. I think you have a common small beads attached jewel.

Check out this page for reference while searching for the rare large beads detached jewel.

But isn't there a variety of a Large Bead with an attached jewel? I believe someone on the forum talked about this a while back.

How would you figure out if the coin is a Large Bead, not based on the jewel? I've heard that the "A" in Regina points to a dot and theres a dot in between the "II" after Elizabeth in the Large Bead variety. Is this true? If so.. I can't accurately tell if mine meets that standard. It could go both ways.

The OP's coin is a small beads variety- the common one.

The rare one is the Large Beads, detached jewel. The "even more rare" one is the Large beads/attached jewel, which is just an earlier die state of the LB/DJ.
