I was wondering if anybody might be familiar with this set. I ask because I was checking out my dad's. The coins pass the ring test and tissue test for silver, but I can't find any confirmation anywhere that these coins are or are not silver.

Does anybody else have or know of this set? Are they simply silver plated clad pieces? Or is the set actually worth something?

Their composition varies by the contributing country, but none are less than .900 fine silver.

Thanks, Dave. That helps a lot. My dad was worried they might not be silver until I tested one of the coins.

Offered by the Franklin Mint the "International Sports Coin Collection" set consisted of 19 Proof Copper-Nickel rounds and a 1983 Proof US Commemorative silver dollar

The COA's stated these rounds were officially authorized by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU)
Maximum mintage of 100,000
These coins are legal tender in the issuing countries

Apparently that isn't so and when it was figured out they were not legal tender coins, all except the US Silver Dollar, they were removed from the Standard Catalog of World Coins and moved to Unusual World Coins.

Except for the US Silver Dollar, the other coins, all of them are copper-nickel composition

I just got a set in an estate sale with the case and COA and will give them away to my relatives children to play with

I don't like sets like this that hide the metallurgy of their seemingly "real" product, so I kinda like to keep them off the market when they cross my path.
