Today my dad and I went to the black diamond. ( a place that sells coins and antiques) They had a PR-70 State Quarter and a PR-69 too. So I askede the lady if I could look at them both. While inspecting them I none marks or anything on the 70, but the 69 had some small hard to see spots. So I guess they really did a good job with grading them? They were graded by PCSGS. I kind of did like the 70 but they wanted 45 for it. I was thinking maybe ebay would have one cheaper.

Was it the silver ones or the normal proof. 45 is a good price for the silvers the normal proofs if youre patient you can find a little cheaper. The 1999s are really expensive in the 70s though.

Hmmm...I really can't remember... all I remember is the grade. I am not sure what year and if it was silver. But it was pretty dark so I'm guessing it wasn't. It must of been Ultra cam. I should have looked at the label right? lol If we go next time I will write it down so I don't forget.
Because that wasn't the only coin I checked out. They had some ikes, 1972 & 1976 for 2.25 each. I grade most of them MS-63. (around 15 ikes) There was also a gold Mexican coin. 1944 ( I think). It said Dos on the front and I think precio under Dos. They wanted $110 for it... I was like no way I would buy it. It was very small also. I was thinking of offering $60 for it.

There is a good deal to learn from your last post, solotime. You had a chance to examine a 69 and a 70 side by side. I have not had such an opportunity. You were able to see a difference, whereas I doubt that I would do so. An analogy is to audio systems. If a person CAN hear the difference between two systems, then maybe it would be worth the extra cost. But... would trying to save money on a mail order be worth the gamble? You "kind of did like" the 70 because you had it "in hand" and next to a 69. You could COMPARE them. On top of that, many ebay sellers do not accept returns on slabbed coin. These are questions that you need to answer for yourself. Thank you for posting this.

Browse around ebay a bit for an idea on prices for them, they very quite a bit but theres several both clad and silver that can be had for a very reasonable price. Generally the later ones in the series are cheaper and the silver are more expensive

@matthewvincent, thanks very much! Now only if I can remember if it was silver or not. But I think it was a 2006-S Silver PCGS PF 70 Ultra Cameo South Dakota or something like that. We started going there more often so next time I will check like I stated in my post above. And perhaps, I do have pretty good eye's, I can spot things pretty good. It's from playing video games :) *added* After thinking for a little I am going to say it was North Dakota or a South Dakota. And if I am remembering right the label did say silver @basebal21, I just started looking around for a 70. I did end up finding some other 70's that look nice. But I only bidded very low. Just seeing what they go for. It was a 2001 silver Dime, and a 2002 nickel.

A few details about a Dos Pesos gold coin: If the dealer bought it at a higher bullion gold price he/she might not budge on the asking price.

Wow @matthewvincent! That's the right one I was speaking about! I see it's very very little bit of gold. So my offer wouldn't have been bad.

basebal21, I always forget about that, dang it. I will still watch the one I bidded on. I am not in any hurry to even get a PR-70 dime. I would like the quarter first. But it's all just a hobby you know?

I'm not crazy about seeking out slabbed coins with perfect grades, but I did succumb to the desire to have one 'perfect' coin and recently bought a 2005 ASE MS70, PCGS. I wanted an ASE for my one slabbed 70 example, kept an eye out for one that was priced well (relatively speaking). That year's PCGS MS70s sell for a ridiculous amount of money but I paid a bit less than others I saw at recent auctions. I don't plan buy any more 70s but am not sorry I bought the one example. Whether or not it's truly perfect... not sure.

Sadly the dime sold for only 15.50. I was like one minute late... stupid aol news..made me read it, lol.

Quote: While inspecting them I none marks or anything on the 70, but the 69 had some small hard to see spots. Spots may not be what prevented that coin from being graded 70. A weaker strike is what most often makes a coin 69 rather than 70. Usually, it's impossible to tell the difference with a naked eye. A 5X-7X magnifier will give you a better idea. @LXShutter, I may not have made myself clear but when I said it was pretty dark, I was speaking about the cameo of the coin. Perhaps, the spots I was talking about were like the size of an ants head. Now I don't mean the big ones, I mean the little black ants commonly found outside.
Anyway, the guy doesn't care the coin sold for 7 dollars. He shipped it out today. I thought he would be mad. The coin is valued at 40 dollars.

If he doesn't care its likely that he paid less for it than that or he just may not care about a small loss here and there figuring it can lead to new customers
