1965 Great Britain 1 Crown, Winston Churchill This was in my local coin shop's junk coin box, and these pictures are the result of it being a pocket piece for about 6 weeks. Here is the original thread I had about this Crown. Here is a stock image of the coin

And for 1965... Peru, 1/2 sol, 1965 This is a nifty commemorative... 400 years that the Lima mint has been operating. Plus it has an old cob design copied for a new coin design! It joins my 2011 Panama 1/2 balboa with this feature... although a Peruvian cob would be much cheaper. You'll see a full sol tomorrow...

A commemorative rouble (20 years after the victory and the end of WW II) is my choice for 1965. As most commemorative roubles, these were high mintage issues meant for circulation (but slightly larger than regular rouble coins.)

bacchus2 Thanks for posting that coin. I have seen some like it, but did not know what country they were from.

nalaberong stole a march on me with that cool Peruvian coin. So here's a common image of the Queen, who has suffered a few indignities. Sorry about the condition. I'll do better tomorrow. HONG KONG 1965 ten cents: nickel brass; 20+ mm; mintage = 40 mil.

Before this thread devolves into "Post your American silver"... Here is the sol, as promised. Peru, 1 sol de oro, 1964 This is a big coin... at 33mm and 14g, it may be the largest brass coin in the world to circulate. It's larger than an American half dollar (I predict we'll see at least one today...) and an Australian 50c coin, but it can't usurp Ike's throne (the world standard of large base-metal coins).
