Quote: I like that 1000 Yen. Quote: agree with muddler. got to love those Japanese coins, especially your 1000 yen coin. Thanks! I don't see many of them, but will get more ... when they come along. I am pretty sure we are going to see some interesting coins before this thread is over.

AUSTRALIA 1964 one penny; bronze; 30+ mm; mintage 100 mil.+ from two mints. Stunning in red unc. ! This is the last year for the big hopping kangaroo pennies. I'm a huge fan of large copper-based coins. Hope to see more of them in this thread.

@ gr58 I love your 1965 10 francs, are they hard to find? What would one cost? I also like the 1965 Hong Kong coin, both coins are very nice designs. Other interesting coins I never seen and now like are the 1000 yen, and 1964 hopping penny. I also like the 2 coins nalaberong posted for 1965, I find them very interesting.I also own a Churchill crown. My favorite for 1964 is the Kennedy half. This thread is introducing me to coins I've never seen. Now I need to start a world list of coins I'd like to acquire. This thread shows the wide breath of the different collecting possibilities there are, while showing there's something for everyone's budget. I'm thoroughly enjoying reading all areas of this forum. It expands my knowledge of coins and history, and I find this as fulfilling as owning the coins. Overall this is my favorite forum, from all the different ones I read. It's also the one I contribute to the most. I definitely encourage posters to included the history or something about the coin and what it is. This way we may all learn something new.

Quote: I love your 1965 10 francs, are they hard to find? What would one cost? 1965 France Mint sets (that include that 10 franc) go for around 25-30 dollars on ebay. Buying the individual coin might be a couple bucks less, but I would recommend just buying the set. There's a nice silver 5 franc in it too. For whatever reason, 1965 is by far the most commonly seen date mint set from that era in the US (even though overall mintage numbers aren't any higher for that year).

@ jimmy James thank you for your response. It certainly is a reasonable price. I will start looking for the set. I really like the artwork on the coin.

Hi guys, what is a fantasy issue and how is it defined. I've encountered this term a few times and I'm at a loss to what it means.

A fantasy is a metal object made to resemble a coin. However, unlike a counterfeit, a fantasy coin has an "impossible" date, design, or nation: for instance, a 1964 Franklin half would (hopefully) not fool anyone because no Franklin halves were made with the date 1964. Other examples are: - coins claiming to portray Mussolini and Hitler: neither fascist appeared on any official coins of the time - trashy white-metal American fakes, like "Washington dollars": Washington has never appeared on a circulating dollar - a coin with an impossible date, like 9999 - coins with scrambled legends and denominations, also known as "evasion pieces": some are counterfeits meant to be passed on to the illiterate. For instance, "ONE DLLOAR: UINTED SATETS OF AMCERIA" There are many fantasies out there, although most are modern fakes made to be sold to the extremely unaware.

This specific one was made by Daniel Carr - there are pros and cons concerning him in other threads - not for this thread though. This one was a real Franklin half that was overstruck with the 1964 date and MM using an actual press form the Denver mint that they had sold. I think this is why his appeal to me. Mr. Carr makes dies of coins the US mint was planning on producing, but, for one reason or another, never did.

Other interesting coins I never seen and now like are the 1000 yen, I am lucky enough to have access to LCS foreign coin bins. In these bins there are foreign coins that are sold by the pound, or if silver around melt. So most of the foreign silver coins I post I bought at melt. I am going to try and post as may non U.S. coins as I can, if I have good pictures of them .. as good as I can get. There are many coins I hope to see posted, you might find interesting. Coins like- Sol from Peru Balboa from Panama 5 shilling from South Africa I am hoping to pick up some Silver peso's from Mexico this week, some that may be interesting to post.
