Doh Question - New USA Dollar Coin (Polk)

The Villiage Idiot New Member Canada 43 Posts	Posted 02/12/2014 5:58 pm Just a silly question here......but WHY is there not a current date (mint date) on these USA one dollar coins! I see there is the other date -- BUT you would think that they would STILL have a mint date on them (USA POLK Dollar). The simplest of questions.....just seems weird to me IMHO Report this Post to the Staff

jack jeckel Pillar of the Community United States 5216 Posts	Posted 02/12/2014 11:30 pm Even without a date you would still be able to determine the year (but not the mint unless it was a proof) There are 4 President dollars for any given year and once the Sac dollars became "Native American" NIFC dollars the changing reverse design would tell you the year. Honestly, that's the only thing about the NA Dollars that I don't like. I don't see why they couldn't have just left the year and mint mark on the obverse like it was for the Sac Dollar. You can't read it without a magnifier (I can't anyway). That's our government at its finest. cough, cough. Report this Post to the Staff

It is the reason why I gave up on collecting date and mint. Just one per year, since you cannot see the mint mark when keeping them in an album (as said above, you can easily determine the date). I will mention that my horrible finds in circulation made me decide to only collect them in proof.
