It is an Abbasid governor of Tabaristan, but don't know of any Abbassio and couldn't find one either - have seen some mis-spellings 'Abbassio' instead of the generic 'Abbasid'. One online reference who has a coin of the governor on my coin is the Fitzwilliam Museum.
But if it is not resolved within the next (say) 30 mminutes, I'll give it to you - being that close.

"ispahbadh" is the title used by some of the governors, not the name of a specific ruler.
But you are right, where is 'Ancientnoob' (and where are also the others)?

You have to get interested in some other coinage apart from Roman.
There is a lot of history which does not involve the Roman Empire.

My response - I am a Romanophile. I have other historical interests of course, such as how our species evolved out of Africa and early humanity but Rome is Home for me.

Aww, just got back to the computer. Medieval are you sure that the bust is that of the named Arab governor or not a stylized pre reform portrait of Khusro II or Yazedgard III?

When I first started collecting I only was interested in Roman and Byzantine coinage. Greek coins were too expensive and just too difficult to collect and catalog. It took a long while for e to realize that the ancient world was vast and there were many more cultures than just Roman and Greek. I think given time you will start to realize that also and expand your interests.
