I was just wondering if this was authentic.
I don't know the orientation of the coin either.

Yes, it looks authentic.
It's a coin from the Manchu dynasty, the top one is the right way round, the bottom picture is upside down.
I would read the top one as Chia-Ch'ing T'ung-Pao which makes it an issue of emperor Jen Tsung (1796-1820).
And the mint would be the Board of Revenue one.
