Quote: 1464-73 Lusignan Kingdom of Cyprus - James II
While James II is generally recorded as king of Cyprus from 1464-1473, there is an interesting twist to it: The future James II was unhappy that his sister was Queen of Cyprus, so in 1460 he invaded and usurped the throne. His sister was holed up in a fortress and stayed there until 1463, when she fled from Cyprus. After that James II was recognised as king and enthroned in 1464. But since he started minting his coins from 1460, it doesn't match the rules - might have to consider bending them slightly when someone else shows another coin from him (I can post a third one then). Really hoping someone would come up with a clear cut one - perhaps one of our UK members (hint) does have a coin from the first reign of Edward IV, which would be a perfect match.

Thanks. Unfortunately I see three potential roadblocks in this century (including the current decade). From your comment I hope that you might be able to clear one of them. If we get past them it should be plain sailing for at least three weeks. Note for everyone - we are still on 1461-1470.

Sadly, my coin of Ivan III of Russia (1462-1505) is a nigh-unreadable damaged mess (blame me for choosing the wrong example way back when I bought it). Besides, the dating for it is all over the place (I've seen pretty much all reasonable permutations of 1462, 1480, 1485, and 1505). If there's still nothing for the decade, I might consider showing it anyway.
And the more I look at my supposed Suzdal coin from the 1390s, the more it looks like a Western European silver penny (sadly too warped for identification).

That reminds me, I should check my wire money as well - but I do not have much hope. But why don't you show your coins in a separate thread or in https://goccf.com/t/195988 someone might be able to identify what you have there.

OK, I knew that story, but didn't know that he issued coins during the civil war with his sister 1460-3, might explain the very crude almost square flan of my sixain

"Coins of the Crusader States" (1994) by A.G.Malloy, I.F.Preston & A.J.Seltman list the coinage in that order: Charlotte (1458-59), Louis of Savoy (1459-60), James II (1460-73) - and if you have a look at the downloadable pdf "Coins of the Crusaders" you will notice that it states as header "Jame II - 1464-1473" but at each coin "1460-1473".
To be honest, I rather would not have known about it and went on to the next decade - but we have to try to stick to the rules.
Btw, I do have a coin dated AH874 (ie 1470) but unfortunately it's a 'frozen date' and the coin was issued by a ruler, who started his reign in 1487.

I have a coin minted between 1644 and 1461. Is this ok now, or should I wait a little bit?

Nice to see you joining in 'Petrus'. But yes, please wait for the 1641-1650 decade to show that one - if you miss that day, you can post it a few days later.

Another day passed without progress. Where are the coins from the first reign of Edward IV. Does no-one collect (or want to show) English hammered coinage? But there are also still dated coins from Europe and many Islamic nations. Still 1461-1470!
