'Topcat7', Sigismund was King of Hungary from 1387 to 1437. Your coin is Huszar#578 with mintmark K-S or E-S and was minted between 1427 and 1437, so fits into the next decade. An online reference is http://www.forumancientcoins.com/ga...p?album=2254Since this doesn't give the mintmarks (except for the coin shown), here also the entry from Huszar:

Kreuzer minted in Hall or Meran by Sigismund for the County of Tyrol - CNA#45 Count Sigismund ruled from 1439-1490, but was from 1439 till 1446 under guardianship - not sure if the minting period started 1439 or 1446, nothing mentioned in the references Obverse inscription "+COMES*TIROL" Reverse inscription "+SI GIS MVN DVS"

'EddieDiz', that settles this decade - going by my documentation we should get a clean run for the next three weeks. Hopefully 'johnee82' will post his coin as well (and more I hope).

Uniface 'Wiener Pfennig' struck by the City of Vienna (Austria) from 1436 to 1493 - CNA#Fa13 The design is a trefoil with the arms of Vienna in the centre, to the left H, above W and to the right .T - while it is not known what the WHT stands for, there is the assumption that they are the initials of a merchant commissioned with getting those coins minted. As a side note: Vienna is the place where the Wiener (sausage) originated, they were initially produced by a butcher who had migrated from Frankfurt (Germany) where the Frankfurter originated.

Thanks for joining this thread 'Gonner', I had hoped to see more English hammered coins so good to see there are some around.
But as 'january1may' indicated, your coin would fit into the next decade. While a decade can be any ten year period, there are two good reasons why I made them from year 1 to year 10 (etc): 1. Every calendar reckoning system starts with year 1 (there are no years 0) 2. With any other set-up we would have run into a very confusing situation once reaching the first decade of the current era (which we hopefully eventually will do). The decade preceding years 10-19 would have to be 1BC-AD9, and 11BC-2BC etc onwards.
Btw, my documentation (Standard Catalogue of British Coins, 1984 edition) has your coin as being minted from 1427-1430. Would be pleased to see what reference you used. Having said that, please always include some reference if possible, especially if the minting period does not coincide with the reign of a ruler.
