Vintage ad from 1955. You've come a long way, silver coinage.

Wow, a trip back in time!

I remember John Cameron Swayze pitching the Timex watches back then, takes a "licking and keeps on ticking"!

Wasn't a Timex strapped to an outboard motor, given a spin in a tub of water and taken out to show that it was
'still ticking?'
I remember these commercials too.

Also, mid-1950s silver dollars could be had at banks for ... one dollar.

Cool ad. My Dad used to collect Mercury dimes from circulation in the late 60s.

The best timex ad was the one after the truck bomb went off in the world trade center. A group of peeple got out of the darkened stairway by the light of a guys Timex. The add was all black except the words written as if they were going down the stairs.

Maybe a bit hokey now but it was powerful at the time.

Now it seems most people never wear a watch, or see 16 silver dollars at once either.

You know what, I'm with scottk on this one.

"If any of you send me an 16 identical coins, I will gladly send you 2 Timex watches."

And just to make the deal even sweeter, I'll throw in free shipping!

I wonder why they chose to show a Walker and 2 Mercuries instead of a Franklin and 2 Roosevelts...?

Reminds me of ebay. The 1924s are all the same coin.

Over 60 years, silver beats inflation inflation by a factor of about three.

In the early '60's, I remember a friend buying a used trumpet for 20 silver dollars. Could still get them at any bank.
