The only thing I know about gold is that if I bought it, it would likely be fake. This jewelry vendor on the Bay has a handful of 2-1/2 peso pieces. I am tempted to bid on one, but it feels a bit like buying a Rolex in the WallyWorld parking lot. Any comments?
I collect gold coins and love me some raw gold coins near melt.
While I do buy coins on ebay, I never would buy raw gold on ebay for fear of fakes. Paypal should protect you but I don't even want the hassle or bad experience.
APMEX has these for 91 bucks right now and those are real gold coins. Buy that instead of these auctions. Even if it ends up costing you a couple dollars more, the peace of mind is worth it for your first gold coin.
These 2.5 peso coins are fairly common - most 1945-dated pieces are re-strikes, made after 1945 by the Mexican Mint. In fact, they may still be in production to this day. (I have one of these - if you just like the coin then there's nothing shameful about buying a restrike.) Not sure about 1946, though.
