1957 PF Benjamin Franklin Half - Population, Price/Value?

SA4H Pillar of the Community United States 2764 Posts	Posted 12/10/2007 02:55 am I have seen some great "price spike" for the 1957 Franklin half Proof. Some went for $200+ and not many are being sell. However, CDN priced PF65 at $23 and nothing spectacular. I did some population search and see NGC graded 4000+ coins and PF68 (no DCAM or CAM designation) has about 900 coins, about 20%. Here are my question: Why there was a price spike for the PF68 1957 Franklin half dollar? What's the current market value/price? SeatedNut Pillar of the Community United States 2797 Posts	Posted 12/10/2007 08:40 am Bruce, You didn't mention anywhere in your question whether the coins carried a Cameo/Deep Cameo designation. For Franklin proofs that's an important designation that can drive the price way up. The same PF65 with a DCAM goes from $25 to $150. Cameo and Deep Cameo are extremely rare designations for some dates in the Franklin series. Report this Post to the Staff

Lots of people are saving/buying quality Franklin proofs for investments. You mentioned the NGC population for PF68+ is 900. With a total mintage of 1.247 million proofs, that's a small population for a large investment group. I regularly watch auctions for these higher-grade proofs and pick off one now and again for a bargain. Most realize full trends ask price. Report this Post to the Staff

Well, the total population for NGC in PF68+ is around 1000, the PF68-only is around 900; but year, that's a small number when you compare to the 1+ million population; however, not all of them have been graded (only 4000+ had been graded by NGC) I like the Franklin but not into the investment aspect of it.... Humh... I am curious about your "bargain price' and "full trends ask price": at what price is considered "bargain price" and where can you find such "full trends ask price"? Is $25 good for PF68?
