With a mintage of only 50,000 I am surprised these are still available. Where does one get the mintage numbers for 2005 and 2006? I cant find any info on these sets in CoinValues online, or in the RedBook.

2007-American-Legacy-Set

This remarkable collection of proof condition coins marks the third year of the United States Mint American Legacy Collection™. In this set you will find proof versions of all 14 circulating coins for 2007, including the five quarters from the 50 State Quarters® Program (Montana, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah) and the four $1 coins from the first year of the Presidential $1 Coin Program (Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Madison).

Additionally, this set also includes proof versions of the Jamestown 400th Anniversary Silver Dollar and the Little Rock Central High School Desegregation Silver Dollar. Presented in unique and prestigious packaging, it is the most complete offering of United States Mint 2007-dated coins. This exclusive collection is strictly limited to 50,000 sets.

The 2005 did really well initially and sold out fast. I think they were even lower mintage I doubled my money on the couple I bought. The 2006 did not do as well I think because they increased the mintage.

Part of the problem with this set is the time when it came out. Unfortunately, I have yet to find where the mint tells you what will be in the legacy set prior to issue. I had already bought everything that is included in the set from the mint on the release date of the individual coins/groups. Then they come out with an all encompassing package that has everything in a nice case!!

I have the 2006 set, and luckily for me I did not have the San Fran Commems prior to picking it up. For this 2007 set, I already had the Jamestown and Little rock's, as well as the regular proof sets and multiple pres dollars since they came in the proof set as well.

As a side note, the 2006 holder/case is very nice, so if you don't already have the pieces of this new legacy collection, it would be a nice addition to your collection.

This set/series has been a real dog. You can find the previous 2 years on ebay for issue price or sometimes lower. I had a few that I couldn't give away. I think the other 2 sets were 50,000 issues also but that number is irrelevent. There are a million proof presidents, a million proof sets and the commems are hardly selling from the regular issue. There really is nothing that says I GOTTA GET THIS..so it's tough to unload.

Well, I have one ordered that I haven't received yet, and went and ordered another one today.... just because, unlike the other ones, this is the first year the "American Legacy" has included something new (Pres. dollars) besides the two silver dollars and the regular years coins. so there are more coins in this one than any of the others. Having the "Inagural year" in any coin or set is supposed to be collectible and have value espicially as the decades go by.

Yeah, but it may be worth $300.00 bucks to my Great Grandchildren someday ! ha ha I hope my coins will be and stay in the family for 26 generations from now ! (naive, but that's the plan) Not in it for the money to be made, just the collection to be hoarded. (but I may have to investigate this " ebay" world you speak of) LoL

If you seriously want to leave your great grand children a coin legacy that you and they will be proud of, you are buying the wrong stuff. With mintages of over 1 million it is unlikely these or the Presidential dollars that you bought from the mint in another thread will be worth much at all.

You need to focus on key coins and collect historical series that in 50-100 years will really be prized possesions. Throwing back pres dollars and legacy sets will only leave your heirs scratching their heads when they could be looking at a complete series of AU Walkers, SLQs or Capped Bust Halves.

Andrew

Everyone has differing Ideas as to what they want to collect and to be honest there is no wrong way to collect ,,

I have my individual likes and dislikes as does everyone else ,, what you collect and consider to be the (Right ) thing to do ,,will not always be what another decides to collect and leave for their grand children .

Lets be respectful of others choices !

Thanks for the advice metal.

I was not being disrespectful at all. I was just stating my opinion. I know..I know ..opinions are like s and everyone has one. I never said that my suggestion was the only way to collect modern coinage.

Of course this is a free country and anyone can collect anything that want. I was just pointing out that, with 15 posts, this guy might be a bit inexperienced and a bit naive as to the potential increase in value of modern mint products.

Sure, he can buy all the pretty packages that the mint want to sell. The mint would love nothing more but if he was serious in his desire to create a family legacy, he might want to do a little more research before spending all of his lunch money on the pres dollars. An educated consumer makes the best collector as I'm sure you will agree. He might want to consider "other" options.

Thanks again for the spank.

Heh Heh Heh.... Well... "Andrew" is right on my "inexperience" level..... but I don't spend all of my "lunch money" on "modern coins" LoL ha ha Quite the contrary, MOST of my coins are "pre-1900" era !! Believe it or not ! Now, I see the value of the 1999 quarters proof and silver proof sets.........how many saw that one coming ? I've seen where people have doubled their money on the three year running "American Legacy" collection (after only months or a year) I've seen the price of silver sky rocket over the recent decade. Gold by the decades and centuries has gone up ......oh what ... about 1000 percent or so...... So, in my opinion, the "modern coins" can be wise purchases for your money value and a collectors standpoint too. Now, yeah, you might well be right on the Presidential dollar coins, but if they take the "edge lettering" off and put it on the face, then you will be asking me for some of my coins ! If they don't do that, uncirculated/unsearched rolls in US Mint packaging will ALWAYS sell like crazy at auctions ! I've seen people get into bidding wars over "low grade" Sacajewea's and Susan B. Anthony's for Gawd's sake ! Ha Ha I don't live, breathe, and die over ebay and what's on there and the current values to everything and future predictions made accordingly. I take your advice to heart with no offence taken though about buying "smarter" and I love this forum for it. New coins are exciting for me........but overwhelmingly I LOVE 17th century coins and that's what I collect the most of. Some new GOLD & SILVER of course is always good........ how much has "that" gone up in the last 180 years ?

I didn't buy any of the 07 Legacy set yet. I went to the coin shop and they said they'll sell me the 05 for $110 (CDN ask price) since I am becoming a regular to them. I got 2 of the 06 and asked for a trade but then the CDN price it at only $83 (I paid $120 for each of them).........

At first I was thinking of completing the Legacy Set Collection since they just only starting.... but then now, since I need to pay bills and focus on my Lincoln Album.... I'd changed my mind and I need to sell those two set of 2006 Legacy Set.........

Each of us have our own preferences, but my dealer told me that the 05 Legacy Sets were going for $200+ after it sold out and then drop back to around the issue price after the initial surge.... I don't really know what will happen with them.....
