Hello All,

I believe I have here an 4 maravedis according to the counterstamp. I only can't find an similair piece. In the front you see the lion with crown and and stamp with (IIII) .
The reverse shows you an castle and an mintmark? Probably to the left.

I was wondering if someone can identify this one.

It looks a litle like santa domingo 4 maravedis.

The host is a 2 cuartos minted in Segovia during the reign of Felipe II
It was revalidated to 4 maravedies during the reign of Felipe IV (can't figure out a date on the other side, or a mint on over/under the stamp)

Indeed, 2 maravedies = 2 cuartos.
Some catalog list them as such (alongside with the cuartillo, and the cuarto).

As for the type, as those were counterstamped, you won't find that exact coin.
I re-checked my documentation, that counterstamp was applied in 1602/1603 after a royal decree over coins of 2 maravedies minted from the RRCC till Felipe III (some other coins were erroneously marked as well, I have a 4 cornados de Pampelona for example). Many coins from that era were marked multiple times (up to 5 different marks could have been applied !)

More reading about those here (in spanish) : http://www.fuenterrebollo.com/faqs-...derilla.html
