1887 Morgan, VAM-13? Major Die Breaks.

paralyse Bedrock of the Community United States 12057 Posts	Posted 08/17/2015 12:05 am The die breaks got my attention. This die set must have been begging to be retired when this coin was struck. Closest match I can find is a VAM-13 (a?) based on the cracks -- seller pictures of somewhat less than optimal quality. It's in a (very) old PCGS holder w/a gold jellybean. Coin is not attributed by seller, or by PCGS. The coin is ridiculously overpriced for a MS-62, even with a gold CAC, and therefore not anywhere near my buy list, unless the VAM variety is worth a very substantial premium. Any opinions? Cascade Pillar of the Community United States 7390 Posts	Posted 08/17/2015 07:05 am Not a real value adding VAM. In 63 it's a 50+ coin in 65 it's a $100+ coin. The reason it has a gold bean is precisely because it's not a valuable year or VAM so going for an upgrade made no sense even if it went from 62 to 65 so I'm saying this coin in ogh with a gold bean 62 grade would sell for around $80-90 +/- to the right guy who likes gold beans on ogh's. dave700x Rest in Peace United States 10625 Posts	Posted 08/17/2015 07:25 am It looks like VAM13 to me although I can't tell if it's a 13A. I don't believe either is a value added VAM. The seller is apparently trying to cash in on the gold bean. It would be a stretch to get MS64 money for this let alone 65 money. Report this Post to the Staff
