1846 N-16 Tall Date Large Cent Value R5

Not going to bring a premium in that grade vs any other 1846 cent.

CQR quotes N-15 and N-17 (both R-4) in VF20 avg at $75.
It quotes various R-2 and R-3 varieties of the 1846 at between $50-$60 in VF20

It also quotes N-16 (R-5-) in VF20 avg at $100.

So on paper at least CQR says there is a small premium vs. an R-4, and R2 and R-3 varieties.

I don't believe that it matters with an R5, maybe an R6, but cherry picking R5's in the late date series isn't too difficult. I wouldn't pay a premium, maybe someone else would, but not me. Just too many of them, and nobody collects that series by variety.

Also, CQR uses EAC grading techniques, a VF20 in CQR is probably a EF40 coin by TPG grading techniques. So VF20 in TPG grades would be, VG10 in CQR.
