The last I heard, there was a total of 22 registered with PCGS. They're like proofs in their execution, but they have a satin finish rather than a typical mirror proof. I don't know if anyone can agree on why they were even struck; experimental? The 65-67 SMS coins actually replaced proof and mint sets for those years and they were nice and shiny. Both Mint and Proof sets were produced in 1964; and in pretty good numbers as that. Am I to understand your SMS candidate coin came from circulation? What about this particular specimen makes you think it's a SMS issue? Report this Post to the Staff
coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 07/20/2016 11:49 am If it is a coin struck with a fresh die and low in mintage it would show no die wear. This coin is obviously a near LDS when you coin was struck. It is just a normal business struck coin. Report this Post to the Staff
