I've seen this "shadow" on silver coins from the period, but it's not actual doubling. Like CC said. And just so ya know--a DDO wouldn't be doubled in the date, because I think the date was impressed into the working die after hubbing. That's true at least for IHCs for 1892, and perhaps for Barber dimes as well?
