Is it just me, or does anyone else find coins in their collection and you have no idea when, where, or how you got it?

I was just going through some coins on my desk and out of nowhere there is an 1856 $1 gold piece.

I know I've been to way to many shows/clubs/auctions this year because the more I dig the more I find. Does this happen to anyone else? Or am I just "special"? Thankfully winter is coming so hopefully I can get snowed in and do some serious organizing.

Dude. If you dropped money for a gold coin and don't remember it, you got it bad. And you have more money than I do to play with!!

This, all the way.

...In my own collection, I have found (at least) two individual coins where I really had no idea how they suddenly appeared in my house - a bicentennial half dollar way back in 2011 (or maybe even 2010, I'm not very sure), and a Bulgarian 2 stotinki 1881 that I found a few months ago while clearing up some old boxes.

I know that I must have bought the Bulgarian coin during my visit to Bulgaria in 2014, but I do not recall ever seeing it before at all, and I definitely did not recognize the design when looking it up as the Bulgarian KM#1 earlier this year.

Of course, having back then only been seriously collecting for a few months at most, and expecting that I'd at least remember if I ever bought something that interesting, I was much more confused (up to suspecting it was left as a gift) about the half dollar.

I for one checked an old safety deposit box and realized that I had forgotten some of the stuff I had in there. Of course the notation on the holder reminded me.

I apparently once went CRH through a box or two of nickels, and put all of the keepers in a few rolls to go through.

Found them in some clutter on my desk a few months later. It was like Christmas.

I remembered having a VG or so Standing Liberty quarter in my type set, and when I open it, I see a nice AU sitting there. After a few minutes, I remembered I had bought it from Bill Fivaz on my birthday, but it was quite surprising as first.

You are doing better than me. My mind is racing 24/7 with all the things I have going on. I have become reliant on post it notes and the calendar in my cell phone to keep me going.

Funny - I said there were two coins in my collection that I randomly found like that, but there are three now: a few minutes ago, I found a bag with a damaged (bent all over) East Prussian 2 groschen 1773 randomly under my desk (it being Koenigsberg mint, I can again make a very probable guess of where I got it, but I still don't recall ever buying the actual coin, so I don't even know whether it was damaged while under the desk or whether I actually bought it that way).
