I've also been impressed by the nice quality/state of preservation we are seeing.
I guess we will see what @spence contributes today, and tomorrow we will have @giedrius 1506 Glogow coin, then we move elsewhere ... including Low Countries!

That would be another Polish Half Groschen, dated 1507 AD and attributed as Kopicki 407:

Poland. Duchy of Glogow, groat, 1506. This is the first Polish dated coin and the last from my collection. Bought it a week ago and it's on a way yet, so L'll upload the pictures from auction.

Back to the Half Batzens in 1506 AD for me. Here is one from the German Duchy of Bavaria (Munich mint). It is attributed as Schulten 144.

Wow! Nice coin, @giedrius.

I understand that this coin is generally attributed as "Polish," but I find this confusing when I read about the history of this area.

Glogow is in Lower Silesia, and I think at this time (between mid-1300s and 1526), all of Lower Silesia (which also included Breslau and Schweidnitz) was fiefs of the King of Bohemia, not Poland.

However, Glogow did have a dynastic connection to Poland at this time because (a) the Dukes of Glogow are princes of the Polish royal family. So the coin is issued in the name of Sigismund, Duke of Glogow (he was not king of Poland until December 8, 1506), and bears the Polish eagle on one side, and Lithiuanian knight on the other, the symbols of the Jagiello dynasty
As for (b) the King of Bohemia at this time is Ladislas II, who happens to be the older brother of Sigismund. So, we have the younger brother (Sigismund) as vassal of the older brother (Ladislas) who in turn is a vassal of the Holy Roman Emperor (not the King of Poland).

The coin is listed in both Saurma and Gumowski. Saurma includes coins of all parts of Silesia and also royal Poland, so that's not very helpful. But this is the only coin of Silesia listed in Gumowski. So perhaps he felt that the Polish symbols and family connections were sufficient to qualify this as a Polish coin.

Confusing! (But also interesting)

Great explain, tdziemia! Yes, ruler of Glogow Duchy was Sigismund (Sigismund the Old, king of Poland in future),son of Casimir, king of Poland, there are names of Casimir and Sigismund and White Eagle, Polish Coat of Arms, on coin, so, IMHO, this is the Polish coin. Sigismund became Duke of Glogow after the death of former Duke, his uncle Wladislaw, son of Wladislaw Jagiello, Polish king.So tbe Polish roots are 100%....

Here is a Patard from the Netherlands Duchy of Maastrict dated 1505 AD. As you can see, it was countermarked on the rev by Tournai.
