Jorgy Valued Member United States 145 Posts	Posted 03/29/2008 8:00 pm That is an area on the Lincoln memorials that is very prone to cracks. I have found dozens of cents with cracks at the base of the memorial. Most on the same side as yours, less but still common on the left and a few with a crack on both sides of the base running to the edges. Another common area on them is the top left of the building. I have also found some with a crack on the top right but far less then the top left. Kind of strange but the top left and bottom right seem way more common then top right and bottom left, at least in my limited searching anyway. Hope this makes sense to anyone reading it.. coppercoins Pillar of the Community United States 7629 Posts	Posted 03/29/2008 10:39 pm Die cracks running from all four corners of the memorial to the rim are very common. I see them on one of four coins I examine in the 80s. One thing to remember is that the reverse dies were usually retired at the end of each year. It's a lot safer to assume that die cracks running in the same general direction on two different year's cents are from two different dies - not the same die. Many, many dies cracked during use.
