I have been looking for an 1855 slanted 55 for some time and finally found one. Curiously, it is easier to find one with a knobbed ear than without. I am not looking for a knobbed ear. It looks nice and I would like to know if this is overpriced for the grade. What would be a fair reasonable price? There isn't much pricing for recent sales.

It appears that the coin is currently right at retail (Coin World).

Mine is an AU-58 which I got for $185.

I'm not impressed with the fingerprints. Heritage is a good source for past sales. If you want it, and are convinced it's graded correctly, then $90-$100 is a fair offer, and it's up to you where you go from there.

I just bought a raw 1856 AU for $51 shipped. Not exactly what you are looking for but similar. Good deals are out there, keep looking.

Early die state, many collectors would not even notice. To be honest, I think you overpaid.

I have looked more closely at it and am now having second thoughts on it for the reasons previously mentioned(fingerprints). I will probably be moving on from it. Thanks for all opinions.

I am assuming the color will be somewhat darker in-hand.
