Errers and Varietys Bedrock of the Community United States 75421 Posts	Posted 09/29/2017 6:42 pm This coin was struck with a very worn die heading towards it's end of life and usefulness. It's in a VLDS (Very Late Die State). That's why the letters are stretched. On the 5 of 1955, that's Die Deterioration Doubling. Errers and Varietys. Report this Post to the Staff

But since it is a Wheat cent, it's worth a slight premium. Stay here and you'll learn a lot of new information. Even though I've been doing this for awhile, I still learn something new everyday. Mark1959 Pillar of the Community 7234 Posts	Posted 09/29/2017 9:43 pm That slightly raised ridge on the coins surface just inside the rim going around the cent and under the letters is another tell tale sign of a die that is worn.
