Paul! I thought it was off to antiques with you. Couldn't stay away eh? Crown addiction is a very serious problem Anyway, glad to see you're still in it. Nice pieces by the way. I really like the 1623 thaler. I went on vacation for a week and half and had to put my coins away. Now I have none to photograph . I have so many new pieces to share. This week, I promise!

cableguy815 It's very hard to quit crowns to be honest ,but adding some ancient pieces makes coins collecting more interesting for me.One week and a half without coins would be difficult!I'd take at least one with me so I can stare at it every day!Looking forward to see your new ones!

Nice piece Paul! A bit too crude for my taste but intriguing nonetheless. I especially love the ominous date! I finally got around to getting my stash back - it was way too long. I was really missing my little metallic gems. Anyway, here are a few recent pieces - more to come soon. 1757 Malta 30 Tari - a scare and extremely condition sensitive issue. I've been looking for a sample that had some facial definition for a good bit (without paying a through the roof of course). Most samples are fully flat in the facial region. Weimar Republic 1929 5 Mark - Meissen. Not a rare type in itself, but is one of the harder to find pieces of the coins issued during the Weimar Republic.

cableguy815 It is crude and definitely less appealing than other european crowns of the time, but I've seen the same type,in worse condition sold for more than 350euros and I paid less than half for mine. This type, though a one year one is not necessarily rare but, well struck/preserved pieces are very hard to find as far as I know. The 30 tari piece is very interesting!Congrats!I was recently offered a 1798 30 tari of Ferdinand Hompesch in VF, which is a very nice coin to be honest, but the grade made me stop buying it,at least for the moment.

I won this 1874-A French 5 Francs on ebay tonight. It's a type coin I've wanted to own for quite some time.

This is my first purchase in quite a long time. Purchased via ebay auction today. I am looking forward to seeing this one in hand. The Saxony 1/2 taler commemorates the 100 year anniversary of the Augsburg Confession, the primary confession of faith of the Lutheran Church. It was presented by a number of German rulers and free-cities at the Diet of Augsburg on 25 June 1530 and is considered to be one of the most important documents of the Protestant Reformation.

Nice pieces everyone. @Arkie - That British occupation 20 piasters piece has been an elusive pain in my rear for a while now. I've been hunting for a high grade specimen with no success. When they do come on market they cost thousands, which is just crazy! Stack's current auction had a stunning specimen which hammered at $3,000. Granted it is a rarer variety without the inner circle. https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/l...view/3-BGEL6@WCG - Nice 1/2 thaler! Not sure if you were following the current Stack's sale but there was an Augsburg Confession Centennial thaler that was being auctioned off. A handsome piece but slightly overgraded in my opinion. https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/l...view/3-BGFI4Speaking of Stack's, I splurged a bit and picked up a couple of lots. I haven't paid for them yet but here they are: 1683 German States Brunswick Wolfenbuttel 2 Thalers (NGC MS61). A fairly rare type. Was a bit pricey but my winning bid was fair compared to similar historic sales (of which there are not many). 1866-C German States Prussia 2 Thalers (PCGS MS63). Not the scarcest date of the series but a piece I've been looking to add for some time now. High grade samples usually hammer over 1,000EUR so my winning bid of 850 was fairly weak in comparison (to my great surprise - I expected to lose this lot). I guess people found the tone line unattractive ? I happen to like it. Anybody else participate in the Stack's sale? I have one more lot of interest that I am bidding on so I hope to bag that one as well - fingers crossed!
