Hello. I think I can help. Apparently you have a coin of 1828 of 40 Reis that received a stamp of reduction of face value to 20 Reis (imperial decree of 1835 ~ 38, general stamp) For your photo I can not say which state the coin is, but it works like this_ the letter after the date corresponds to the state of the coin, similar to the American system where S is San Francisco, D Denver, etc. Brazilian colony / kingdom / empire.
