Just thought I would share this little shilling from 1839 with you and all its Die Errors
As you can see (hopefully) from the photos, there are also a few colon dots missing along with the letter errors, and a double date error which doesn't show very well. Could anyone tell me how this actually happens.

Sorry I forgot to ask, how can I get better and bigger images to show on here, the restriction on size for uploading prevents the images being shown very large, yet I see pictures on here with really big images and super quality........WHATS THE SECRET GUYS?

That's an interesting coin! I'd like to see larger pics to comment, so perhaps there's another site where you can post larger resolution pics--I know CCF is a bit limited in that regard. If you can't find a free site, send me a note--I have a lot of server space.

Jim,
I took a look and that's sure an interesting coin! On the obverse, they appear to have used several broken letter punches. I noticed a broken A was repeated, which might suggest this die had hand punched letters? I'm unsure of the die-making processes at this time, but I also have a coin from that period that bears a repunched letter on the obverse legend. You may notice other letters have been used several times on the obverse--I didn't check in detail.

On the reverse, I was really interested in the date because of some details I noticed. In particular, I see a secondary punching of the 9 and the 1. Those two were the strongest...others may be repunched as well.

Many thanks for your info Kurt, I actually had this coin for almost a year before I noticed these errors. Its now one of those coins I cant help looking at on a regular basis. Now I scrutinise every coin I buy for known errors and unlisted ones like this, I have about 300 coins so it will take a while to get thru them all, if I come across any others I will list them her for all to see.
I like you REGINA E/N half farthing 1844.
Regards
Jim
