Is Looking Through Loose Change Worth The Time?

Years ago when silver spiked, I was going to the bank and buying half dollar rolls en masse. My daughters who were very young at the time enjoyed the hunt. I have a daughter in college now who works at CVS part time. She comes to me weekly with a handful of wheat cents and regularly hands me Mercury dimes, Roosevelt silver, etc. I think once you have the bug you'll instinctively notice that certain sound when handling coins. Personally, I love it and I love that it's brought my kids and I closer over the years.

While finding a "good one" in change is exhilarating I like the "thrill of the hunt" too. I always check my change. I also like to release what other collectors may consider keepers back into the wild in the hopes that it may stir up some interest in the hobby.

I always check my change. and my wife's too. She found a 1943p war nickle for me the other day.

When I bought pages for my albums the guy at the store gave me a 2 dollar bill and 2 fifty cent pieces in change. I thought that was cool. And then added them to my collection

Exactly. It is not like we find one every day, so it is nice when something turns up.

Worth the time? No. Then again, I presume a lot of what we do when we're not working is not worth the time. Does that mean you shouldn't do it? If you are not having fun doing it, then no, it does not pay on an hourly basis what you can get doing almost anything else.

I do it everyday with my change. I even look through the "take a penny...give a penny" pots at the stores, replacing what I take. I do get stared at?
