I haven't seen a bicentennial quarter in pocket changes in years, but then in the past month I have received four in four separate transactions. I live in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area. It just strikes me as a strange occurrence. Anyone else see an influx of these quarters?
As a kid I was always excited to see these because it was the only varied reverse on the quarter I'd ever see. It's not as exciting now that seeing an plain eagle reverse is probably less than 50% chance. Still, it was odd to receive so many in such a short time.

Probably from someone who dumped a hoard of them they had, inherited, or stole. I have not seen one in a while down south, but I do see them from time to time.

I thought they were getting scarce, but then I went through three boxes of quarters to find they are still plentiful! $1500 in quarters yielded several rolls worth of bicentennial quarters.

I still see them periodically in pocket change up here in the Pacific Northwest. They are getting more beaten up with time as you would expect for coin circulating for over 40 years.

Not as common as they used to be.

People tend to either hoard bicentennial quarters, or they spend them just the same as any other quarter. When the hoards change hands (or the hoarders themselves have to dump) they usually hit circulation all at once. It's a cyclical pattern I noticed when I was a cashier for a handful of years.

I was in Florida for three days in November 2014 and got two in change (in separate transactions) in that short period of time!

California here. Now that you mention it, I do sometimes get strange influxes of bicentennials. For example, one day the cafe had like ten in a single roll and me and my friend got quite a few in our change. And another week I kept getting bicentennials as change from the vending machine. For some reason, though, they seem to be pretty stable in rolls (about 1 per roll).

My favorite US quarter, my birth year! I see them regularly at work when I am busting open rolls in my till.

Quote: Probably from someone who dumped a hoard of them they had... Agreed it was likely from a dump. As time goes on and more people look on ebay to find out the rolls they have stashed away are not more than face value, they get dumped.

I'm in Texas and have found three over the last several months. One was in a roll, one in change and the other was from a vending machine.
They were all in pretty decent shape actually so, probably dumped more recently from someone's stash.

They seem to be more common here in the Phoenix area than they were in the Chicago area before I moved.
While they really have no added value over any other quarter I save them most of the time. I like that they are usually pretty well struck and the design is awesome.

I still see them every once in a while. If it's in good shape, I keep it. Otherwise, back into circulation it goes.
