Quote: Maybe the most exciting bits... My favorite local coin store is going out of business. The owner is moving to Flordia. He's gradually liquidating his inventory. This week he's pulled out his Lincoln boxes and slashed the prices... Practically giving stuff away.
WOW....I'd clean him out at those prices! Where's he at?

I picked up this ¼ penny from the foreign junk coin bin at a local hobby shop. I have no idea what it is worth, but I like the design.

Bowfin- Nice South African farthing! I really think that South African coins are rather unappreciated by the masses of numismatists. A 1952 in unc is worth $2. I may see a bit of wear on the birds though, so it may be closer to $1 in AU.

Thanks for the info Archraz. I paid 10¢ for it. I went back there today and went through the box a little more thoroughly and found this ½ Penny. Also bought this ¼ Anna. The pic doesn't do the florescent lime green toning at 2 o'clock justice.

I picked up several nice coins at our local coin show last weekend. 1) I thought this might be the right time to add a bit of bullion so I bought a 2008 1-oz gold buffalo. 2) Then, I found a nice 1873 with arrows quarter in AU-55 or so (a nice upgrade for my type set). 3) Ten years ago I bought a 1917 Type 1 Standing Liberty quarter that graded MS-60. I found a beautiful coin to upgrade that one: an NGC-slabbed example in MS-64 FH. Much nicer! 4) I've never had a pattern coin in my collection but for years I'd admired the J-160 large cent pattern from 1854. This coin is slightly smaller than a standard large cent and has the same obverse Liberty Head portrait. However, there are no obverse stars so the portrait really stands out. A dealer friend had one graded NGC Proof-65 (brown) and I figured this was my big chance. I didn't have enough cash left so I made a down payment. I hope to pay it off in a couple months. Sorry, no pictures until I replace my defunct camera. However, here's an image of another J-160 example from the Heritage auction archives. I love this design!

I got this because I wanted a commemorative silver $ for type set. I think this is one of the more creative designs:

Filled another hole in my Morgan album today. She ain't no beauty - looks to have suffered a good bit of abuse over the years, but it's one of the few I've been needing - fits real well in my circulated set. Ralph

Richard: That 1864 Large Motto is a nice example of a wood grain finish. And that 1868 is in great condition, for the year.
