Hi hhbkiddo,

Picture was taken with a regular incandescent lightbulb held about 18 inches directly above the coin. Camera was tripod mounted and image was taken at a slight angle so the light from the bulb was reflected from the coin into the camera lens. Camera has manual white balance and settings at the time (from memory) were F3.2 and 60 or 80ms shutter speed. I find the regular lightbulbs bring out this color a lot better than say halogen or tungsten bulbs. The real key though is taking the coin image at a slight angle so the reflected light goes into the camera lens. Make sure not to over-expose and use a higher F stop if possible to get the whole coin in focus.

When these arrive, I'll update but here's a picture I tweaked a bit of this listing I won ( gambled on ) [eBayItem]130309663679[/eBayItem]

I think I did OK.

I am expecting an AU to BU rainbow natural toned set.

update:
THIS SET ARRIVED 6-10-09
Better than I expected. I have not looked too closely yet but I bet there are 7 or 8 BU's and maybe some border UNCS or choice AU's.
Images will soon follow.

I don't know how you see any detail in those pictures.

Good luck.

update:
A lot of lousy images on ebay can yield nice coins. I sometimes copy the images and rework them in image programs to get a better look.

This set was removed from the holder, spent the night in olive oil soaking, which lifted some dirt and improved a spot on one obverse.
I rinsed in light soapy (dial dish soap) water solution to get the oil off and immediately submersed them in a fresh acetone bath which is where they are now. I will let them there until the mailman comes with the second set and they will do this routine most likely.
I will rinse these with distilled water, use a hair dryer to blow away the moisture completely and place them in Kointain holders and then put them in 2x2's.

My guess was about right, Some of these will go full step Gem BU, some are probably at worst MS62. There is a strong double punched mintmark on the 1944 D ( I think ).
The ones that are not so hot seem to be the more common war nicks so I can shuffle some doubles around and have a very nice third complete War Nickel set in GEM BU with full steps.
Not bad for about $25.00 to my door.

These are not good images because the coins are submersed in acetone as I take the images. There is a lot of refraction and blur.

I got something similar to that from a different auction. They were not toning but in mint condition. I removed them from the holder and put them into 2x2 holders and into my Jefferson collection. Enjoy, I know I did.

I went for another set when I got up this AM,
I think these are more like XF and AU ish and won but I still can see 4 pillars on the reverses of the tiny picture.
[eBayItem]160340305499[/eBayItem]
This will help make my circ set look nice I hope.

update:
This set arrived today 6/11/09 with
2 choice AU coins, maybe one is UNC.
3 AU coins,
3 XF to ch XF and
2 VF and
1 fine/VF

Fair enough. Better than most circ war nicks offered out there.
7 of these could be used in a choice XF or better Jefferson set and be a plus.

I just got these in the mail. Traded 3 red seal two-dollar bills for the lot:

"66 centavos of Japanese occupation of the Philippines"

Continuing-List-To-Show-Everyones-Latest-Acquisitions

"from the top left, first all the coins...
1st row: France 1 Franc 1940, France 1 Franc 1960
2nd row: German occupied (Vichy) France 1 Franc 1942 (rev same as 1st coin 3rd row), Free France 1 Franc 1944 (other side same as 3rd coin, 3rd row)
3rd row:Vichy 2 France 1943, Vichy 2 Franc 1944, Free France 1947, Free France 1949
all coins on lower 2 rows are aluminum
the East German Medal has a pin behind the upper section so it can be worn. It's kind of dark, but the upper front has the black, red, and gold of the flag of the DDR. The front around the hammer, wheat, & compass says something about the socialist collective and work, "der kollektiv sozialistischen arbeit"

on the back it says, "sozialistisch arbeiten lernen und leben"
socialistically to work learn and live."
