gtkwml Valued Member United States 224 Posts	Posted 10/24/2018 5:54 pm I buy lots of corroded Balkan bronze, and see many from Constantines, Licinius, Probus, etc. but never one like this. I assume it is Byzantine, but can you tell me more? The obverse has a standing figure that appears robed. Christ? Think I see IVS. On the reverse I can see ANN. (ANNO ?) also a cross near the top and some Greek letters. A disaster of a coin, but would be nice to know something about it. Thanks in advance for your help. And all the help in the past! Ben Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 4208 Posts	Posted 10/24/2018 6:34 pm It is indeed Byzantine and that K makes it a half follis. The other side is two seated figures, Justin II and Sofia. The surviving stuff on the reverse is enough to get a full ID: Justin II & Sophia AE Half Follis. 565-578 AD. Thessalonica mint. D N IVSTINVS P P AVG, Justin on left, Sophia on right, seated facing on double-throne, both nimbate, Justin holding cross on globe, Sophia holding sceptre, sometimes with cross between their heads / large K, ANNO to left, theta-cross-C above, officina letter below, mintmark TES.
