ccobb- Looks a lot like a normal D to me, but I could be wrong. Your coin is quite worn, so it may look like a small D, but it probably just shrunk after all the wear over the years. Wait for others to chime in and see what they think. Here's a side by side of the real Small D coin and your coin, hope it helps. -QH72
But consider the coin wear, the upper part of the mint mark has worn down and now looks thinner. Also the example you are comparing it with has a broken post, making the center opening on the 'D' to look thicker.
Thanks guys! and I "found" the quarters in my collection of old quarters that I just sorted through! Going to try to go through the 40's, 50's,and 60's tomorrow. The teens ,20's and 30's were def in the worst condition but I did see a few nice ones. I still don't know how to tell if I have a proof ! any advice welcomed!
