My first post was similar to this. Mine was 1979. I was told that the post on the die which caused
The center of the mint mark had broken off. After searching thousands of pennies I see around those years they were fairly common. I still have mine. You can collect anything that catches your interest. Good

Coin contact damage. How can I tell? Note the damage on the '7'? That tells it me it took a hit.

Does not look like a broken post,which is very common on 1979 D cents. Looks like it took a hit.
