I am not up to speed when grading paper currency as I am with coins. I am thinking this is about a VF or better? No pin holes, no rips, 3 slight vertical folds and 1 slight horizontal fold. good colors red and blues, decent corners and no missing pieces.The bill is very crisp. What is your opinion on grade? Always tough to grade paper money from photos, but I'd say it's in the VF-35 to EF-40 range. Nice looking example of a tough note!

Sweet looking Fr. 243 1886 $2 Silver Certificate.
Appears in the VF'ish range. Dare I say it may have been washed and pressed in its long life ? I believe the hard folds on the back were dirtier at one point in time.
Is the note yours, or is it a possible future purchase ?

I just purchased about 15 notes and this one by far was the best. They had been sitting in a safety deposit box for quite some time. I have no idea about washed or pressed, but anything is possible.

I am not an expert on bills, but it looks to be in great condition. Some of these specimens sell for almost $900. It is a great find. Maybe bring it in to some experts in a big coin/bill shop, or otherwise well-known antique store, and ask them for their opinion. You might have struck silver. ;)

I find that many small LCS owners don't know a great deal about paper money, much less whether a note has washed or pressed.  |

@ SteveInTampa, Thanks for the link. I saw that on Bbay, I am not sure how to get the opinion of PMG, sounds like I would have to put up an ebay listing and then request a PMG opinion? I don't come across notes as much as coins, so I do not think I want to join PMG in order to send it in. My original guesstimate was in the VF or a little better range. I may put it out in the shop and see what shakes out. |

I don't think the authenticity and approximate grade are issues here. Only an in-hand evaluation by an experienced will settle the cleaning/pressing question.
