Just what is your agenda here ?
I have been following this interesting
thread from the beginning and certainly
Wish the owner well in getting this 3 pence
authenticated. Many interesting North American
rarities have shown in England and Europe over
the years and it is quite plausible this is another.
In my many years of being a coin dealer , I have
been on numerous buying trips to Europe and have
Seen some wild NA material ( some I was lucky to
acquire ) which ended up back in Canada or the USA.
For Larsjan I hope this is one of those "HOMERUNS " we
all drool for !
As to your enquiry of who belongs to what associations
any on this forum belong to ....relevance ?
Letters after ones name ......doesn't make one an expert or a genius !
BTW .., ANA1127198 , VNS, NSNS and formerly CAND .

I'm an EAC member but I don't see how that helps. Common sense and having an open mind help more. Let's hear how this all works out.

I agree that we should all use our personal "ignore" filters and not get this thread locked again. Strong opinions have been expressed and there's really no point in expressing them again unless there is new information.

I did hear back from the Yale curator a couple weeks ago, who was kind enough to respond to my email. He is aware of this coin "for quite some time now" because news travels fast. He said there are no photographs of the lost/stolen Yale example, which was my question for him. It's a trivial tiny bit of information, but it rules out a counterfeit having been made from a photograph of that example.

kbbpll, was that Benjamin Hellings? I'm an undergraduate there right now and have reached out to him a couple of times about the Yale collection; he seems to be a pretty friendly guy!

Yes. He and the MHS curator were surprisingly responsive to me. He did not express an opinion about this coin but said that photography was prohibitively expensive and through the first third of the 20th century, collections were rarely photographed. Photography increased marginally as costs decreased but by then the Yale threepence was gone. I wonder whose secret collection has it now after 60+ years. You'd have to think that the centerpiece of the Yale collection wasn't just melted for silver.

Larsjan, maybe you could post some of the coins from this collection you bought while we await the outcome of this exciting mystery. I'm sure these coins will be exciting to as well. Or maybe help settle some of our doubts. Collectors espcially overseas tend to take pride in old pedigrees such as the old coin flip, while an uninformed collector might just toss it. I'm sure the collector of the collection you bought had some other tremendous pieces!

It's a shame this thread has been ruined because of one person. I hope Larsjan hasn't given up on us. I am still very interested in the outcome and hope, as most of us do, that it is found to be authentic.
