Hope everyone has been well, been so busy with work I haven't had much time for coin hunting lately.. but was looking through some bankroll pennies and came across this. Initially I thought it was a lam bubble but when I poked it with a toothpick, it remained solid. So, figured I would make my first post in months and get some opinions. Thanks!

On the '3' on the obverse, that is DDD. (Deteriorated Die Doubling)These will be seen on the outside devices in the direction towards the closest rim. Date to the right. Liberty to the left and motto towards the tops of the devices:

Die chips are not actually "extra" metal on a coin. It's a normal strike that has metal flow into the hole (die chip) where metal is missing from the die. No matter how large a die chip is, the coin's weight will not be different from the weight of the planchet.

ijn1944 means potato chips have sodium (salt) but your die chip doesn't,
so your coin is much more healthy for you.

Also there is no such thing as extra metal. The planchet only has one amount to distribute on a coin. Extra metal would indicate that something was struck onto the coin that was not part of the original planchet. So a mintmark/die crack/die chip/die break/rim cud/die Cud will all be the same weight after the strike that the planchet had before the strike. So a die chip is not extra metal. The void on the die was filled in with the planchet, so it is not extra metal.
