I have a 1971-D Kennedy half dollar I was wondering if this is a Double Die or Machine Doubling also is the Reverse a weak strike or grease strike? Spence Moderator United States 34455 Posts	Posted 11/01/2020 8:24 pm @og, that step-like doubling looks more like Machine Doubling to me, but others will weigh in too. I do see some weakness in several areas, including on HALF and DOLLAR. I think that at least some is due to a little grease in the the die. Also the dies that struck this coin were very worn, there's some rippling going on in the fields which usually doesn't happen until a late die state. There may have been some grease or polish in the dies, but I would think that the cause of some of the weakness is from Die Deterioration as well.
