Some collectors prefer the ring inserts because the off-setting color (black or white) make a coin standout. The inserts do not add any additional protection. Report this Post to the Staff

Ken_3567 Pillar of the Community United States 651 Posts	Posted 12/14/2008 05:51 am Initially, I thought the same thing until a salesman explained it to me. The inner ring is actually a convenience for manufacturing purposes as they can make fewer capsule sizes and adjust for coin sizes via the insert. It's basically how they keep the cost down and can quickly ship orders. (very Lean Mfg'ish) Though the question I forgot to ask was if the insert would could eventually breakdown and create a problem for the coin. I'm assuming that the answer is no and I hope it is as I have my more valuable coins in them with inserts. Report this Post to the Staff

I mean if you put the coin directly in the middle of the foam, it should hold it away from the plastic. I'm sure it doesn't matter if it sits on the plastic, but hey, every little bit helps :) Report this Post to the Staff
