1848 Large Cent - Mint Error In Date?

I found a potential mint error in this 1848 Large cent in the date. Looks like an upside down date with the top of the 1 peaking out underneath the 1 and an inverted 4 next to the 8 in 18.

Wondering what y'all thought. Any ideas on potential value?

It's either a Newcomb-40 or a Newcomb-2 variety, depending on which reverse die was used.
