I am sad to say it is the victim of PSD. You can tell that by the way the metal is pushed up and distorted the letter O in the word DOLLAR.

Yes that is a shame. Is there any sort of corresponding mark on the other side at this location?

I'm learning so much on this site. Thanks everyone for your insights! What's the difference between PMD and PSD? And

, the obverse of this coin doesn't seem to have corresponding damage.

In a shallow PMD edge scrape like this, no obverse impact would be expected.

PMD and PSD?

Post-mint damage vs. post-strike damage

Theoretically, you could classify damage that occurs after the coin is struck, but before it leaves the mint building as PSD but not as PMD. I use them interchangeably.

Very interesting on the PMD vs. PSD. So for PSD, that's damage to a coin before it leaves the mint, but after it's been struck. Do collectors place a higher value on PSD vs. PMD? Or are neither preferred? Thx!

No, but close. PSD also includes damage that occurs after it leaves the mint, so I suppose that PMD is a subset of PSD. Again, it is all damage and in general hurts the numismatic value.
