I know this thing has an altered surface and is clipped and that everything is wrong but I still might buy it...

Do what you wish, but a problem coin is always a problem coin, scarce or not.

It's obv #2 so less rate than 1873H but more tare than obv #1. Current asking price is around 30 bucks but we'll see what happens as the auction proceeds. .I need to set a firm upper limit for myself as it's easy to get distracted....

@TheDeductable - I'm with you on that though I'm surprised you could read through all of my typos! It's at Heritage and the auction is in a few days. Who knows where it will end up price-wise.

1873 is pretty well-represented in my collection but, if that thing wasn't clipped it would be worth some serious cash even with the dip/retoning situation.

It'd quite something - full split in at least 5 of the laurel leaves..

Wow. Now see that? They're out there. There's a lot more NL collectors than people think.

We're not alone, Silver!

I don't think it could go UNC - the surface has clearly been messed with so I would have to think there's damage to the frost. Still, the preservation of detail is outstanding - certainly mid-high AU and *maybe* unc. But that chunk out of the rim is a significant detail.
