It's just that the clad layer has been discolored. This coin looks burned or may have been buried for a time. If it were a missing clad layer, the coin would weigh less and have weak details. While a few clad coins rolled out of pure copper have been certified, they are incredibly rare. If the coin was all copper when it left the mint, it would have been pulled from circulation when it was first seen and would show little to no wear. sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21789 Posts	Posted 06/20/2021 11:06 pm This coin is most probably a clad coin recovered from direct soil contact in ground burial. To be sure, check for weight for a standard clad Dime. Given enough time, copper-nickel and clad coins usually discolor to the same appearance as bronze coins when they are buried.
