@dar, it make take a little time to track down an exact match, but I am pretty sure that is a German wedding medal.

Text obverse - reverse reads "Was Gott zusam[men] gefügt" - "Lebt fruchtbar und vergnügt." In English: "What God joined together" - "Lives fruitfully and happily."

An exact attribution I cannot give, but the medal is described in old inventory lists of collections, the oldest from 1763. From its style and appearance I would guess it is 18th century.

@era, thx for providing more info. It looks to me like the rim has damage in a few places. Do you think that this piece was mounted at some point? Might that be common for these? Just curious as I don't know a ton about these. Thx.

Looks like it could have been mounted. I don't know if that was common, but for a wedding medal I guess that could be the case. I think these were given as a present to the bridal couple.
