Is this nickel just a product of environmental damage? It weighs what I expect is normal tolerance 4.75 grams, but its penny brown all over. Darkest in exterior run. No wear, full steps for the most part even. Thanks for any insight.

Given the images posted, I'm seeing environmental damage. May have spent a little time in soil.

That is surface staining @graf—you can see where the "good" metal shines through on more recent scrapes on the rim.

I appreciate each of you. I truly thought it probably was E.D. before the flash hit it, the shiny metal wasn't visible, and amazingly the side looks 10000% like a penny and I couldnt rub it off, lol. What was crazy, is that somehow it was in a penny roll from the bank, and it actually fit without splitting the wrapper open. AMAZING! Haha

But plese try to get better in-focus images with-out the glare of the lighting. That way we can evaluate your coins better.

Yep, just environmental toning here. I can see some of the silver of the nickel metal showing through in some places, so I would rule out a black beauty (if that is what you were asking)

Image #4 is reversed. (mirrored image) Just a homeless coin for a time. Note the contact marks are removing some the coating of the coating on the coin. Eventually it will be one color again, but will remain a dull finished coin.
