Blackstone is a controversial organization. I will no longer do business with NGC.

I knew this was happening awhile back. But now with Dave Lange gone. (R.I.P.) I too am out, and will no longer use any NGC services, at least I can vote with my wallet no matter how small it may be. Not a Blackstone fan whatsoever. Doesn't mean I'm going to dump all my NGC graded coins (which I don't have all that many anyways) nor refrain from buying coins in their holders, but I will pledge never to use them for any new coins I may acquire or submit for grading or conservation services.

Boycott NGC because it's owned by Blackstone? O c'mon.

Like others, I only buy coins already slabbed by PCGS or NGC.

Same. I doubt I will ever have the patience to send something in, nor do I have the need. I already have my (pre)graded Ike set completed. Well, except for one last piece.

Is it normal to only buy US coins in slabs? Are fake coins are a serious problem with US coins?

No, it's not normal nor exclusive. There are plenty of people who buy raw (or crack out of slabs) to put coins in albums.

There are many Chinese fakes of valuable coins in the market, however. And once you have made the hub & dies for say an 1893S Morgan it's easy to expand your counterfeiting to other years.

If you want to play the registry "game", there are preferences for buying a single company's slabs - PCGS and NGC have both allowed and not allowed competitors' slabs at different times.

Thus it IS common to buy the key dates slabbed. And once you have a few slabs, some people find it easier to store them in boxes so that they buy everything slabbed.

There is a tendency to buy key dates slabbed for the authentication.

I'm unclear on what your stand is.

You'll buy them already slabbed, but not send any in to get slabbed?

Do you have something against Blackstone?

How will you know in the future if a coin in an NGC holder was slabbed before or after NGC was acquired? (aside from old style holders giving it away)

Blackstone owns over 200 companies, including Hilton International, Motel 6, Wyndham Suites and La Quinta Inns. Do you ever travel?

That is how I play. Let someone invest the time and money getting them graded, I will take my chances buying them already slabbed on the open market.

Me? I have no dog in that fight. The person you quoted (kanga)? No idea, they never said. The OP? Most definitely.

Not if I can help it!
